Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Driving on the slick icy roads isn't fun either. I have to snow blow a path to the coop and from the coop to the toy hauler. (chickens love it there in WINTER) I barely shovel anymore. I am too old.

Man I feel for y'all having to deal with snow in the winter. I think I would rather have bad heat for 2-3 months of the year. I hate the cold. But the mosquitoes, eye yi yi

Still no eggs here. They free ranged a bit and I lured them back in with carrot peelings and tops. They always seem mildly annoyed like they've been tricked. But I can't stand out there as long as they would like.

Ah, I was waiting to see JW's egg count (typically higher than my total eggs all put together!)

Today brought a strange new development. I've never seen my chickens fight or do anything other than a little chest bump and some ruffled up neck feathers. Today, Penny was really going after Maggie. I had thrown some scratch down and any time Maggie came near Penny, she would bite her comb and chase her away. I know chickens act like that, just have never seen it in my own yard. Interesting. Penny's movin on up.

Someone new squatted. I know I said I don't check to see if I can get them to squat, and I don't. I couldn't help but notice this one. I pretty much just walked by her and she assumed the position. No interest in the nest or anything though, so we have a ways to go I'm afraid. Be nice to get at least ONE egg most days, even if Miss Working Girl Penny is taking a day off.

Oh, Val, do you treat the girls every time they go home? Mine LOVE going home after range time, and often they beat me to the run door when i come out because they know delicious treats will be dispensed.

My girls do not come running when I throw treats into the pen. They know what is going to happen. My old flock would come running and hop right in. This flock runs the other way. I have wait for dusk to arrive to close the door to the pen.

They won't go in the pen without a bribe, unless it's dusk or it's starting to rain. They will all come running in for scrambled eggs. Other things, my stubborn EE may or may not come in for - she's either really stupid or really smart, I haven't figured it out.

The thing is, I can only stand to be out there for may one hour at a time because of the mosquitoes. So, yeah, they usually aren't ready to come back.

@valjean ... The snow isn't that bad. It is really quite beautiful. After a heavy snow, everything is quiet. I just don't like driving on it. Bad winters do suck. When a 4 lane road becomes a 2 lane road and the berms are 5 feet high...,

My DH and I become sick in the heat. It is draining.....
