Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Shark Week, been watching it since its first year. it's been going strong for many years now, one of my favorite specials.

I was right about today being a strong egg count day... well, at least so far, 9 Eggs in the basket by 9 AM. and the nests are full of peckish beauties. I've let everyone out early, no breakfast served, as I need to head out in late morning/early afternoon for a music festival. they'll be super easy to round up... they all want that meal - I was mobbed just replenishing waterers... it's splendid out, clear, warm & breezy... and I'm tromping around outside in my pj's and muck boots... waving to passersby as they slow down to avoid the Fosters hanging out in the road...

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone! I'll be back tonight!

Jealous of all you shark week watchers!

You have to get up pretty early in the morning to catch Penny laying her egg. 6:45 is not early enough. I woke up and stumbled out to see what kind of egg action we may have had so far and there was Penny's egg. Not even warm. She beat me to it by quite a while. The bird is a machine.

No other eggs yet. It's only 10 I guess. I'm so spoiled. My only experience with a layer is one that has never laid an egg past 9ish and that was only one time. The rest of the time they've been before 7.

I'm reaaaallllly hoping today will be 2 egg day....but realistically I think I can expect to continue to get one egg for...forever.

Now Hedwig and shadow are both screaming their heads off. I had opened the door to peer outside and Wilson hopped down but now she is sitting in earnest. She didn't even move when baby Mortie #1 accidentally opened the nest box on her. Sadly I now have to go to a birthday party and I will miss it. Please let it have a shell!

Doesn't it say something when we go about life missing our chickens???? I'll still go out but I'd rather make sure I'm always home to get eggs, watch em, put them to bed, etc...

My BFF wants me to come down to dc on a couple weeks and I'm so bummed. If I head down Friday during day I'll come home sun evening but that's still too long away.

PB please don't leave, we enjoy hearing about your day and wait for eggs but like cheeka said it's the questions about building incubators we know nothing about. Unfortunately more questions aren't going to get an answer and when we don't answer you seem sad. It's fine to ask the initial question but once it's apparent nobody on here can add to the discussion you are trying for you should prob check a different thread for that particular topic.

Also please don't take offense if nobody responds to a specific post. We're all busy and jump on and off. I know I can't respond to everything.

Ok back on topic... Well the hawk topic... We chased off a hawk today. It was the closest one has ever been. So close that when DH scared it off by throwing a stone at it. I'll be buying him a sling shot for x-mas. I was totally freaked cause the polish are still small enough to prob be carried off.

7 eggs...still haven't found where they are laying (besides the 4 unapproved nests they already have). But I haven't gotten an egg from my white marans in a while. Little stinker.

FYI, did Zumba for first time today. Loved it!!!!
A sling shot is a good idea. We need to protect our flock. We owe it to them.

don't be silly PB, we don't want you to leave, and you are always welcome to ask any question you want, but when the entire current population is unable to provide you more than a direction in which to turn, it's time to do some reading over there too. that's all. you might have questions down the line that are "off topic" to specifically waiting for your chickens to lay... that we may all have input on. most of us use broody hens to hatch out eggs, a few use commercial incubators. that's all our experience in a nutshell. we want you to have a fun experience on byc as a whole

X2 Cheeka. I had a broody hatch eggs for me. I know zip about incubators.

Cheeka you must have a terabyte hard drive to store all your pictures in. Lovely as always! Love your chicks, makes me wish I wasn't so limited. I need to move.

I keep thinking every day is going to be a big egg day. Yesterday was, if one likes rubber eggs. Penny has been laying for almost a week straight so she is due for a break. Who knows what the wonder twins are going to do tomorrow. I am wondering if maybe my two rubber eggs weren't from just Wilson. I just can't believe that both she and Maggie (who has shown zero interest in the nest or anything, no squatting...maybe she IS a rooster) both decided to lay identical rubber eggs at exactly the same time. Maybe it was almost a conjoined rubber egg...i've seen those on here before...but they managed to be separated. Hmmmmmm. Guess it doesn't even matter much does it. What will be, will be.
I have had two rubber eggs from on pullet on the same day. Just a glitch. Whew... I am trying to play catch up on this thread.

yeah, essentially, my computer's entire memory is for photo storage, and like an old fashioned photographer, I keep all the photos. even the blurry ones. one would have all the negatives in the old days... about every 2 years, I have to put the lot on discs and clean out the files, make room for more. most days I take well over 100 photos, some days 2-300. someday, I want to publish calendars. some scenery, some flowers, some animals, some combos of all the above and of course... chickens. I could do a dozen different editions of chickens each year.
If you make a chicken calendar... I would buy one!
