I was on Ms So and So's route today. she left me 60% of her phone book deliveries.

so with the car packed to the max, back seat filled to where I can't really see out of the window and mail on all sides in front and I'm essentially pinned in the car. can't get out to deliver large or signature items... the phone books don't start until the latter 60% so it's like this for hours... ordinarily I would park my car and get out to take pics of flowers with the macro lens, but I can't. there were a bunch of these pretty orange flowers very close to the road, so I parked at the edge and hung halfway out of the passenger window, balanced on my stack of mail... but I got it!

we had free range, I got home at 4, despite the rotten extra phone book work. it was really nice, mild, partly sunny, the flock was loving it after being penned for 5 full days due to rain. after everyone essentially put themselves up, I offered free range to the new girls. this one is the only one who took me up on the offer and she explored a lot of territory. the other two are so silly. they stayed in the pen, dashing back to the kennel nest every time I came nearby... but they were happily roosting at sundown so I know they're settling in well.



lol, he puts on such a puffed up show to get my attention! then he deflates, cuz... y'know... he's gotta breathe...

I am so hoping that the weather is nice tomorrow, haven't checked the news all evening, got caught up in a pumpkin carving competition on the food network. incredible artists!

The black EE is so Cochin-ish. Round and fluffy!! So lovely. Give her some treats and she'll be your best friend.

lol W4W! yeah, it's nice to have a few more bantam girls to go around... he's definitely worth breeding, and his attachment to me is a crack up. he knows I belong to him and he takes total advantage... thing is, that's what I want anyway, so it's a win-win.
and you're right, the dark EE is very Cochin-ish. she's warming up to me little by little... the bad Mama is a spaz. but she's molting so she's forgiven.

The heavier the molt, it seems the grumpier the mood. My sweet hatchery New Hamp looked like she took a ride in a plucking machine, and became absolutely obnoxious toward the other hens. Even when the feathers grew back, she was horrible, chasing and pecking and mounting.

She finally started laying again this week, and has calmed down considerably. We can never underestimate the power of the almighty hormone!

Yancy looks more like a porcupine... poor prickly thing. I'd be grouchy too

Haha! Poor Yancy. It must be really itchy. I have a SLWyandotte that looks very similar, but Grumpus is always grumpy, so no big deal. I love it when the last few tail feathers hang on like that!
