Happy belated birthday!Saturday was my birthday and no pics. We don't really do anything for my birthday. Hubby's and his twin brother's birthday is tomorrow. We're going to have supper here and do Christmas with hubby's family since they are leaving to go back to SC Christmas eve. I will try to grab some pictures tomorrow!
In chicken news we are still getting 2-3 eggs per day.The EE that just started laying a little bit ago has eieither stopped laying or has a hidden nest somewhere. I don't know where though because I haven't let them out of the run for the past few days and she isn't one that flies the coop!
If a person lights their coop, how many hours of daylight are they going for? I'm dumbfounded lol. I'm not going to light mine but if I did, and assuming I followed the advice about doing it in the morning rather than having them plunged into darkness in the evening suddenly...I'd have to have the lights come on at like 4 am for them to get near 12 hrs of light.

Hey, me again, it's been raining again![]()
The two big girls lay like clock work and it's rare that they miss a day. The araucana and the appenzeller don't look any closer to laying, sigh..... I REALLY WANT CREAM AND BLUE EGGS but whenever I complain to my none chicken owning friends I get one of two replies -
'Chickens can lay blue eggs?!?'
'Lol cream eggs, you know those are made of chocolate right?'
So I'm picking three girls I'll raise from chicks in Spring, my shortlist is, speckledy, cream legbar, welsummers, silver Sussex. I want to make my mind up before chicken math strikes, seven chooks is really my limit, eight and I would need a new coop - and a bigger lawn lol.
Any suggestions on what to pick?
BTW - I'm trying to cut down on the amount of smilies I use- Darn! I can't stop.![]()
EDIT- I'm correcting spellings that autocorrect messed up.![]()
Being in Englland, you should be able to get Cream Legbars that are close to commercial layers? Here we are stuck with what Green Fire Farms brought in. They are not the best egg layers.
Araucana are on the bottom of the blue egg laying list. Our Welsummers are not great egg layers but they do lay very pretty eggs.
