Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Soon, Marie, soon.  Of course with chickens that could mean tomorrow or next month.  :D   Next week would be a good bet.

I tried to give them the saddest look that I could muster.[/I][/B]    This is far more effective while messily devouring KFC!

ROTFLMBO...

very quiet day here, spent the afternoon napping, snow flurries dampened my mood considerably. and since some of us are on Facebook... the theft of my and several other pages wonderful photos is such an annoyance, so now I have to take extra time to watermark anything I will be posting publicly. I love it when my pics are shared, and don't even mind downloads... the page I Love Farm Animals does it all the time, but they credit the source without fail. imagine my surprise to see Henry as another page's profile pic! they stole like 8 of my photos. if they hadn't shared 1, I might not have even found it, but there was Henry, on the pop up from who shared - they haven't responded, or taken the pics down and I found a bunch that I know who they belong to. notified them - we'll see if facebook takes the page down or what... grr!

so, my friend from Stillwater is looking for some bantam pullets. I've offered her the 3 from the September hatch, Merida, Elinor and Gretel. it's a wrench giving away Peach's last offspring, but she'll love them like I do, it's a good thing. maybe her 1 roo, Kenny, a fabulous Polish will fertilize some of their eggs for me to hatch!

This thread was close to being a ghost town yesterday. Hope everyone was having an enjoyable Easter.

Cheeka, I think watermarks are a good idea. You need to protect your property. Too bad an unscrupulous few make it necessary. You wouldn't like China. Digital pirating is rampant, especially movies. Their government won't do anything because it's not hurting them. They restrict much of the internet for the general population, but pretty much anyone can get free copies of movies. Google should take action.

Funny this should come up because I was going to ask you about a new BYCer who is an artist and looking for good chicken pictures as inspiration. Of course, I immediately thought of you so thought I'd show you his post in the Bay Areas BYCers!

Greetings, everyone! I'm Jose, from Vallejo. I'm a freelance illustrator/fine artist. A goal of mine is to one day host an exhibition of my drawings and paintings of chickens at a local Bay Area art gallery. I am constantly looking for pictures of chickens as photographical references for my artwork. If anybody is willing to let me take pictures of their chickens, or will be willing to supply me with pictures of their chickens/grant permission to create artwork from existing photos of their chickens...your help, or any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Just saw that he started a new thread about it.
Is anybody willing to provide photos of their chickens for references for my artwork?

Girls free ranged all day. And I think my polish babies are laying. I'm getting a lot of small white eggs. I forgot how small pullet eggs were. And these polish are small. Suppose to be LF eggs but we'll see. Lucky turned out to be a good size so maybe they'll get bigger.

Here's one of them.

Planted our apple and peach trees this weekend. Hubby broke out the cement mixer to mix up the soil! Lol

I had fed the chicks some canned peaches and set the can down. I am so happy to see this little one appear! I redecorated the can in paint. somehow I missed the bottom right corner

I was super pleased with the geese photos before I even saw them on big screen... I have several, all great, but the watermarking deal takes so long... I only did the 1...

but I like these just as much...
have a great day! I'm late, and I don't care.

I was doing the coop quarterly clean out (I change the bedding every week but every few months I give everything a wash) and when scrubbing down the perch I discovered some red mites! :barnie There weren't many and I check all of the girls vents and couldn't find any so came to the conclusion that I found them early.

Once everything was clean I added the shavings and got my demite lice and worm duster out and duster the perches and shavings. I then dusted the girls when they were in the coop at night.

I'm super annoyed as I haven't had any mites before and I want to make sure I don't have them again - any advice? My duster is all natural and is made from the place I got my hens (they have blocked my email but that's a story for another day ;) :idunno ) anyway I figured I will check each night under the perches for signs of any more and dust each day for a week and do another big clean out. I'm off at the moment so I have the time. The girls are all fine - acting normal and laying as usual - so I think I caught it early.

Dust the girls too and repeat in two weeks to break the life cycle. The dust only kills the adults so you have to kill the ones that hatch from eggs before they lay more eggs. To see the mites on the hens, you need to check the vent late at night. Mites live in the coop and then go out an night to feed on the chickens.

Keep an eye out too. Mites are not easy to get rid off.

Look for blood or mites on the eggs.

Oh Min, I hate those red mites. Be very vigilant about checking for the next couple of months, especially at night with a flashlight. I found it very hard to get rid of them. Ultimately I had to get a flea spray meant for pet beds and spray the inside of the coop (not the chickens). In fact, now that the weather us warming up, I'm going to spray again. The mites come in on wild birds.
