Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Yea MC! I'm so happy for the progress towards farming again, and hopeful that you two can work out something that makes you happy(ier)

She is so ornery this morning! I was lucky enough to get into the bathroom, get Sturgis outside, and get a cup of coffee before she woke. Then it began! She knocked down the baby gate, and began climbing over it. I locked it into place, and she began climbing up it. She likes feeding the dog, but now that is her actual goal! She is also rocking the chair do its tipping. I need to get a big dining room chair in here. They are unfortunately waaaay in the back of the garage.

MC, great news about the new chickens!

Are they any particular breed?
Anyone want to predict how long it will take MC to get to 50 chickens?

At least Sturgis looks happy! Or is he just looking hopeful?

As soon as those babies get mobile, your work load quintuples.

Maybe she will be mesmerized by the chickens.

Jazlynn, look into my eyes... You will be good for your auntie MC.
(Around everyone else, feel free to be yourself.)

I don't think it will take too long to hit 50. Then again, I couldn't get rid of the eggs when I was only getting two dozen a day. I like the idea of having just enough eggs, and a small feed bill. Now that I have said that, I have just jinxed myself into 60 by summer.

The chickens are mixed breed. I am hoping a few have a White Rock father (for size) and assume a few will be EE.
Sturgis was expectant at that point. She had just given him almost a whole egg at once. I looked up eggs and babies. It said "most parents wait until one year". I was desperate enough to try it now. Ironically, I have thrown out a lot of eggs lately because I haven't been eating them. I bought a half dozen, and they are gone in a week. Between Jazlyn, Sturgis and me, we will be eating whatever the girls lay. That is, if Sturgis is still here. Dave may have him on the road again soon. Not until I get Sturgis's nails in order though. They are better, but some are still twisted to the side. He is walking better though.
Jazlyn will be mad she can't get to the chickens. I will be bringing her into the coop now and then though. Especially when she gets the hang of walking. Which I am still the only one she does it for. I swear she knows what she is doing to the others. Here she will get to a standing position on her own (no furniture to help her) and then bend over to pick something up, and stand erect again. She will sometimes walk a little if she wants to share with me or Sturgis. Everywhere else, she won't even stand with help.

we just came back from the tech school that teachers about chickens and a vet on call at all times, we had a chicken die 3 weeks ago, now we found one that looked bad, they are going to check it over to see just what is going on, hope all we have to do is get meds for them.

gilcamp! that's great to have that kind of service available!

we've been crazy busy over here and I can hardly keep up, but it sure is worth it!

Why did the chickens cross the road? Because a chicken Wrangler made them.

Sorry about Tommy. Wonder what was wrong with him. I have heard that d'Anvers roosters are not very nice. Must be the same with d'Uccles.

yeah, Poor Tommy. he had lost his voice, but seemed fine. Brutus lost his voice over his first Winter... so I figured Tommy would just squeak for a few weeks.. then his comb had a blueish tint and he was not well. took almost 3 days for him to succumb. he's in my freezer, I have to decide if I'm going to make a mount out of him. both my D'Uccle's are/were mean. but the little porcelain hen is sweet as can be. go figure.
