Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I bought actual scratch for the first time today. I usually get cracked corn. Two bags of the grower/finisher and two of the layer. I also got a new shop vac. The list of jobs I have lined up for this thing...
I'll use it for getting in the corners in the house first. Then it's out to the coop to suck out the cobwebs from the chicken wire (its intended purpose) and then out to the fire ring to suck ashes. When I hose the coop down again, I will use it to suck up the water.
I also spent about $200 on Jazlyn at Walmart buying toys and necessities. I almost knocked out her mother. She was dictating what I bought. I'm not talking allergies. Just what she thinks Jazlyn likes. Lets refresh. I've seen Jazlyn walk and stand for a month. Mom didn't know she had teeth (5!).

lucky she has you MC! smh...

I cut their feed with BOSS and millet and other miscellaneous things like safflower seeds every meal and kitchen scraps when I have them. I get scratch once in a great while... they tend to snub it and the only one's who like cracked corn are the roosters. one thing I do not have... is thin hens. they've never been off their feed, and sometimes I have to reduce the calcium available bc it takes real whacking to get them open - the older hens need it though...

Mama Gretel took her bitties all the way from the house in the distance to the pine baths next to her old home. they did just fine, but she did not want to get back in the kennel to come back inside. she wanted to move them home. too little still. they can get trampled, lost... probably escape. these are some itty bitty chicks!

I called the landscaper this morning. He said he tried to get out here last week, but it was raining. He said I would see him after five tonight. It's barely six, but I am anxious. The grass is very very high!
I was expecting my flock starter (we all know I'm gonna get more!) today or Thursday. I got the call a little over an hour ago that they are on their way from about 90 minutes away. They will be here soon!!

OMG my stomach hurts. I have so many thoughts going through my head right now!
Speaking of which... Anyone else wanna go see that new Disney movie "Inside Out" about the voices in our heads?

so exciting MC!! can't wait to see some pics once they get settled in! or during the settling in....

I brought 6 beautiful pullets to a friend in Gilboa, she just wants them for the laying season, then she will return to NYC and give them to me. I was offered these 6 about a month ago but didn't need them. 2 Marans, 4 Cochins. she'll keep them til end of Autumn... it was good to get them out, they're wicked bald from overbreeding, but beautimous just the same!

The landscaper showed up a few minutes before the enablers. Two of the girls are brown laying EE. The other three are a mystery. The roo looks like a BR mix, but he isn't. The girls are two reddish, one black with a green sheen (she is on the smaller side), Ummmmm. I don't remember the other 2. Too much going on.
By the time the enablers left (after offering to bring eggs to hatch and some chicks) My heart almost stopped when I walked outside. It doesn't look like my property! I have a lawn! LOL! He ran over a nest of mice. I'm kinda horrified, but kinda amused. His wife showed up, and the kids were petting and not-quite-chasing the chickens in the coop and run. I haven't even touched them yet!
I tried to get pictures, but they wouldn't come out. The one of the storage room is fine, but not the birds.

I really hope I remember that I have chickens in the morning. They have lots of room inside the coop, and food and water. I just want to offer the run before it begins to rain. I was so surprised that they figured out the coop so fast. I didn't expect them to so willingly go in to roost.

I went to let the dog out. Even in the dark, the yard looks amazing! Oh! And I have mint. Didn't even know what mint looked like. I decided to have it cut down. I have too much else going on to care right now, and it made his job easier.

that is super MC! and the mint will come back if it's just cut down... so you can decide if you want to move it at a later date... the new babies are beauties - you will have a great big smile when they hit the run!

Congrats on the new chickens MC!

Hope they start laying for you soon.

Cheeka is right about the mint growing back. Like I always say, It's hard to keep a good weed down!
