Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

thanks - she's a local artist in Gilboa, but travels around the country on commission for murals - her work is incredible, even her living room is wall to wall murals of country scenes - I've wanted to own a piece (or more) of hers since before I ever met her - she lives on my route and is here roughly 4 months each year. I first saw the living room murals when I went to the door with a large parcel for the tenants who were renting the house a few years ago because she was on a year long project in Florida. then I found her on Google - she has a painting of something that I photographed, so I shared it with her and her fans to reiterate just how incredibly talented she is... and that's how we became friends... now she is a steady egg customer when she's around. anyway, she had mentioned that she wanted to paint a picture of one of my chickens if that was okay, so I pointed her towards Group of Seven - almost 5000 photos for inspiration... then when she presented it, all wrapped, she was saying how she loves faces and she found a photo of my granddaughter and she hoped I didn't mind... but she had to paint that face... MIND??? goodness gracious! I've been collecting real art since I was 16 - I gave up posters by 14... and I have quite a bit of "good" art. by far, this is my favorite, my most priceless treasure! I will treasure it forever, even though when Mylee is a grown woman with a place of her own, I will give it to her. she will treasure it too. When I was her age, my mom got a ceramic Raggedy Ann cookie jar and told me when I grew up and moved on my own, it would be mine. I still have it. and it's perfect. it is filled with all the Ramen seasononing that I don't use when I make Pie for the flock... I can't throw it out... and I never use it for myself. not that I hoard much of anything... I figure it might come in handy for something or someone... anyway, I feel like the painting is like the cookie jar... something to look forward to owning... and something I look forward to giving.

What a wonderful story! :) Made me smile to read it. Not only are you are wonderful photographer, but a really good storyteller to boot! Have a great evening! :)

Wow beautiful painting cheeka. What a special memory Mylee can look forward to and I'm sure she'll remember.

W4W I agree that we've dropped off. I can't believe it's been going so long. I've been writing for 2 yrs. can't believe I've had chickens for that long.

And in that two years I've come across a wet egg from being laid and heard it drop into the nest. Well yesterday I stuck my head in the coop because they don't all lay in a nest box and I actually saw one getting laid. And was able to video it. Pretty cool!

MC- you are making such a difference in Jaz's life that will help put her on a good track even at this young age!!!

Zoey congrats on your 1st egg!!!

Can you post the egg laying video? Very cool. I've caught 2 being laid, and one time got a clear view of the egg coming out and saw how the "tube" that it is in (can't remember the name) actually extends outside the vent and then the egg comes out. The egg is never in contact with the poop chute. Before that, I couldn't understand how the eggs could be so clean. Amazing!

I've been having trouble sleeping, and when I sit down in front of the computer, I kind of zone out. Usually I try to read a few threads, but usually don't have enough brain power to post much. Sometimes I try, and it just sounds like blah blah blah, so I erase it. Most times, I fall asleep sitting in the chair. This is sounding blah blah, so should be erased.

Nah, I'll post it, but you have to forgive me for rambling.

W4W, One of our original 4 RIR's laid an egg right at the foot of my BF!!! I almost peed myself laughing so hard....She just stood up right at his boot tip, stretched out and plop! there was an egg! I'm surprised all of us didn't have flies in our mouths....LOL....She just walked away and started foraging again like nothing happened! I'm sorry you're not sleeping, I know how you feel! There's so much stress in this world, I think empathetic people are picking up on it and can't shut their minds down at night anymore. I wish I had a switch that would shut mine off for 8hrs!

Your RIR was just delivering that egg to your BF. Service with a smile!

No doubt about the stress, albeit low level in my case. I'm guilty of being a bit of a news junkie, and it's amazing to find when you are isolated from it, like on vacation, how little most of the news actually affects your daily life. Usually it makes me grateful for how fortunate I've been, but the horrors and suffering do stick with you.

The thing causing the most stress right now is teaching my high school senior to drive.

I remember when he was born, asking my hubs, Do you realize how old we'll be when he starts driving? That's what we get for waiting so long to have kids.

More gray hair and heart palpitations!

Oooooh...I am about to start teaching my last Daughter to drive. They first one was the worst and she still scares me to drive with her. The second daughter was a piece of cake!

Now we will see about the third one.

When I was in college, we studied sleep. One common problem with sleep is knowing how much you are really getting. When we are asleep, we do not remember. We do remember when we wake up. I have a fitness tracker and I would swear that I was up a lot last night but I was not. I was in deep sleep 97% of the time and in light sleep 3% of the time. I managed to sleep 7.5 hours last night.
