Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Chicken Morse Code!

I didn't see any pips. No zips. Tomorrow should be the first day if they hatch at 18 days. Some people say 19 days.

I think number four is about to come raging into the world. I see two pips. The one that has been pipped alllllllll day, and another green egg. The first two, I didn't see a pip. They were just there!
Going by the noise, I think one is close... Wherever it is coming from.

I have six now. Here's why I thought I had six before. Three were sleeping in the brooder (which I am switching to a blue or black light bulb before tonight!!!) when number four was born at 11:59.
Around quarter of one, it woke me, and I moved it to the brooder. Apparently the shot of cold air wakes the next egg up, because once again (so far, it has happened each time) the next chick began crying in the shell, and hurried to come out. It took me forever to get back to sleep. Sturgis, for once in the last few nights, was not curled against me, and just acted ticked at the disturbance. He pretended to sleep.
So each time one hatched, I was woken up. Then I went back to sleep until it cried out again. Then it was moved. All the up and down made me lose track of how many were moved.
Number six (7:00) is the first I didn't take apicture of when it was born... And my tired brain now realizes I should have. It was my first pip!

Duckling is so sweet with her babies, a doting look on her face. she will make the best Chick Mama!

and yep, pip and chirp and rest and pip and chirp and rest... it's quite the process. back in the 80's I went on an Outward Bound Mountaineering trip. it was great... all kinds of learning, but the best memory was the high ropes course. took 2 hours to complete, unless you got sewing machine leg on the high wire... that could stick you in one spot for a while... anyway, near the end was a big rope net circle that you drop into, climb down, across, then up. as you near the top, it gets narrower, and narrower. when you reach the top, your weight causes the opening to get smaller, so they call it the Birth Canal. perfect name. it's quite the struggle to get your head through, then wrench to get your shoulders out... it's a lot like being born all over again. then they strap you to a big swing and shove you off the edge and you swing in a hundred foot plus arc, back and forth... pretty awesome!

Yay! 10! Haven't checked on my eggs yet. Will let you know later.

Cheeka, I would have loved that high ropes course when I was younger. Nowadays, I'd be scared of getting stuck in the birth canal! Good luck at the Dr.s!

Yay 13!
