Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

The baby barn in the fenced off garden section of the backyard is next, making a play house for Wrangler, and starting a garden, along with new fence between the neighbors, with a gate, so the girls can go back and forth easily. Wrangler spends more time next door than home, now that schools out.
The ducks are so funny. They have the ramp thing down pat...so, of course, they go right off the edge this afternoon...splat!
But, they seem happy...and relaxed.

Ping and Quackington love the mud puddle. I filled it with dirt after they got out. Gravel for the edge and grass for the yard coming

They're chilling in the shade while I play with the new pump. The pool needs cleaning and the neighbor's lawn needs watering...its working beautifully. Then I'll use my big shop vac to get the muck at the bottom. Gravel is going down around the edge so this won't be ongoing...

That's great, though... water and fertilizer at the same time! How do you tell Sweatpea from Quackington? Which one are you thinking is the male? Wrangler is really going to get an education with a drake around! It is quite an eye opening event to see them mate. And this is from a kid who helped with breeding Thoroughbred horses. Hard to find something that will raise an eyebrow after the horses, but the duck sure did!

lol, she's seen the roosters, so she sort of knows what to expect. now that she's been around horses for a few years, she's seen stallions. I also got what I thought was a great photo of 2 gorgeous horses, but one had a little extra on display... that was an interesting conversation!

as for the Pekin's, it's easy to tell them apart, kind of like kids... Sweet Pea is a drake and so is Ping, but I've known Ping is for quite a while. Quackington is the only duck, and she's a lot smaller, and lighter weight. Ping doesn't have a bright orange bill. at a distance, forget it, but I can tell who's who pretty quickly from say...10'
I have posted a few listings In Search Of... female ducks. 2 or 3 if possible. I don't even care if they're older.

the drain pump works great, had it empty in an hour. I weed whacked after instead of finishing up, so I'll have to get the muck out in the morning, but it's not as bad as I thought. the shop vac will take care of it easily. I've got nice red rocks for around the rim, put some down today, around the drain pipe and that end of the pool where the puddle was. looks good with the stone. will loosen the soil in the yard and get some grass seed down, I've got plenty of straw to cover. it'll probably take 3-4 rounds of seed to get it all filled in.

Hahaha! It's the best way for kids to learn. They don't seem to extrapolate to human activities until they are old enough, and then it's really fun... "you mean you and dad...? eeeewwwww!" :lau
Maybe it was just my ducks, but it was rather violent looking. Good thing my female was bigger!

Welcome barred2rock! got any pictures to share?

I got the pool all cleaned out and refilled and put a lot of rocks out. then I swapped a lot of rocks for bigger rocks because Ping was trying to swallow a rock about the size of a bantam egg... then I scavenged the backyard for pebbles - little bit of competition here... Peri Pug eats pebbles. lots of them, and she was not happy that I was gathering and not sharing... but I was able to get enough to make a few piles for dabbling at while swimming.
wish I had gotten a video... Quackington was doing somersaults under the water.
