Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

My heart is breaking. We culled 2 chicks (cockerels) and Rumples today. I’m not sure if you remember but, Rumples was my crippled hen. I thought that she would not make it long enough to raise her chicks but she did. And then.... 2 more broods. She hasn’t been broody for 2 years and I needed to thin the flock. It’s a very sad day.

DH was supposed to cull the frizzle also but, be couldn’t catch her.
I’m going to try and sell the Liege Fighter cockerel ( at least I think he’s a cockerel) when he is bigger and I’m 100% sure. Liege Fighter hens are not good layers so... if I have a pair, selling both could work.
Ducky, the curled toe chick, is good. No more tipping over.

I get them and night and put them in a cage in the garage. It makes it less hectic on the day of processing

An observation... since we culled the two highly suspect cockerels, things in the brooder have been much quieter.
I had observed the CL cockerel picking on a couple of his siblings.
We are due for super cold weather next week. :th
It is amazing how calm it can be when trouble making birds are removed

So sorry about Rumples. She had a good life with you and didn't suffer. You gave her much more than most would have. :hugs
