Should I do this?

They grow it in Japan and China, so, obviously, I'll survive the cold....It is actually a grass. Just be sure you don't purchase a fast spreader, unless that's what you want....Mine gets about 2" in dia. and about 40' tall.

Thanks

I think I might plant some in the spring. I like the looks of bamboo. I don't want it fast growing so I'll be sure to watch for that.
It isn't dangerous for the chickens is it?

Nope!!

Chickens love to nest in the roots, but so do snakes.

Neat! Maybe I'll plant some for them too!
Ya know, to be honest, I have NEVER seen a snake on my property.... I know that doesn't mean they aren't around somewhere but they just aren't that common in my neck of the woods.

But I'll keep my eyes open for them anyway.

Not to be offensive, but you're sort of in the middle of nowhere. Who is buying these homes? Commuters from Houston? I hope not, those would make the worst sort of bad neighbors. $25,000 per acre sounds high for seems awfully high for where you're at...it must be the Houston crowd.

Actually, I don't think the house is bad looking, nor does it look that huge to me from the picture you posted. But here are some suggestions

I think a homemade cinder block wall, about 2 feet in from the property line, with something like pyracantha planted on the side new homes. Something you might like to look at is a row of cypress trees, or some sort of hedge. If you want it fast, go with Royd's idea of bamboo. That stuff grows FAST!

Me, I would put up the fence. It was probably in your plans to do so anyway so do it. One can not count on a view except in some states where there are laws that protect the view for others. I don't think your state has that.

Bamboo is a great crop. Look up people who sell it.A gallon pot goes for $30-$100.

Personally I think it is rude to face the house towards your property. They should face it to the road. By facing your land it is like they mandate you to keep things the same for their enjoyment, and I don't think that is right.

Don't get roosters. I read of a man who was forced to get rid of his and yes he was in the country BEFORE the other people.

Do a survey or be ready to update yours. When people buy and/or develop they will survey(hopefully) and you have to be ready to dispute or agree. No need to do a fence at night. You have nothing to hide.As a land owner you have the right to build whatever you want. Boy,if I owned that much land and someone faced a house towards me I would really want to block THAT view.

I got giganticus miscanthus and that grows up to 12-15 ft. Got corn that grows up to 15 ft too. A line of it is useful to create some privacy.

I think you need a new pole barn, or a pecan processing building, right next to the tree by the fence line. Something useful, but not really all that pretty. Or move your machine she to that side of the property.

Or you could take the high road, appreciate the fact that someone loves the view of the property you love so much. If their yards become ugly or they become snoopy, bad neighbors, they you can deal seeing how you use your property.

I don't think they will be spending a lot of time outdoors, so you won't loose your privacy.

It seems a little petty to me to block their view, just because you can. I don't see that house as an eyesore.

I would plant the tall growing grass in front of the fence. Then in front of the grass some bamboo here and there. The grass will block the house in one season. Bamboo will take longer to get going, but boy the big ones are awesome!

I agree that a pole barn blocking the house from your view would be good too.Everyone needs more storage!

I agree their stealing my veiw they did it for their benefit. I am in the country. The land value here is not twenty five thousand I wish I'd sell out in a heart beat for that much. Developers are crooks. Honest to goodness crooks. This idiot was trying to fill up a six acre lake & we are in the middle of the worst drought ever. He's using a well to fill the lake. He doesn't realize that there's alot of livestock & humans who need the water to survive. If my well goes dry then what? Its all about the dollar he doesn't care about anythink just the dollar.
The only reason I wanted to build at night is because thats what they did & I couldn't sleep.

Make it a complete surprise. Buy the stuff you need quietly and hide it away until you need it. Then once it hits 9 pm.... BOOM!!! Hammer hammer!! Saaaaaww! Make all the noise you can while building

It's only fair that you dish back what you were served.

He built the house there & positioned the house to look at my property. I see the house as the biggest eyesore I've ever seen in my entire life. One more think I know neighbors are always nosey. Their like the lady on Bewitched MRS Cravets.
I don't care if they come outside are not they will be staring out the window at me. I don't want people staring in my backyard maybe you do not me.
