Should I even bother?

Aart, I use a Zareba 10 mile, 1/2 joule low impedance charger. I have an 8' copper clad steel grounding rod driven 6' into the ground, and I am using a 7 light fence tester. I've been shocked by it (the first time I used the tester, I didn't ground it first, so when I touched the fence, I grounded it!) and it packs plenty of punch! The charger is hooked up to 200' of Premier1 48" chicken net fence.

Gotta love those unintentional hand tests, don't ya?

I started with a zareba .07 joule solar 3 mile charger, with 2 ground rods 6' deep and 10' apart. It was a deterrent, but critters still crossed it. I had to shut it off to get this little guy to leave.

Now i have a parmak mark 8 with 6 joules and the same grounding system. The deer keep their distance

and this guy is probably still running

Bears are clever and if they want something, stopping them can be difficult.

When it comes to a hot wire, go as big as you can. I know that if anything wants to cross my fence bad enough it will, but for now i have reclaimed my space.

Unwelcome mat. ha ha ha. I live in a bear-rich area. Apparently they walk across my lawn while I am blissfully unaware. My place is cleared; folks in the wood see more action.

Try banging pots and pans when you see a bear. You may want to hang an obnoxious wind chime - for the noise. My father-outlaw (I'm divorced) leaves a radio in his barn all night to ward off bear and other creatures.
