Should I help this chick hatch or it is ok?

hey.. go ahead and turn it so long as it doesnt screw up your humidity.. since we dont know when it started incubation.. it's not going to kill it any.. i have seen where some people have had eggs hatch IN the turners because they forgot they were due for lockdown

But will it always be stuck in one side of the egg?

ohmigosh i think i have two like that!

i tried to record the candling so you could see their movement but all i have is my cellphone video option and it isnt picking it up clearly enough for you to see via video :-(

If the chick is already stuck then there's nothing you can do to help it either way.. then again I can't say for certain what's happening with it without seeing what's going on in there.. so as long as your humidity is good I say to turn it a few times a day and see what happens

Yinepu-

Lil Man went nuts over that yogurt! He ate like .6ml's in like 2 mins! I couldnt get a drop to come out fast enough for him! He was pecking it like crazy! How much can he have and how often should i give it to him? Is it going to benefit him if the antibiotics keep killing off the live organisms? I might continue it for the full 7 days.. so like 3 or 4 more days..

For humans, it is recommended to take probiotics between the doses. So if you dose every 8 hours, you'd take it at the 4 hour mark. I'm not sure about chicks, though. I feed Probios since it can be mixed in with food or water.

it's pretty much the same for any critter

Here are some "before" & "after" photos of the chick boot I made for my lil girl with curled toes~ It was a quick fix. I wanted to do something since it was day 1 and the sooner you can do this for them the better. Will probably try a different technique tomorrow. I like the idea of individual splints but man thats gonna be stressful on her :-/

Poor Babys toes BEFORE:

AFTER (DURING the process of straightening her toes...)

I just noticed in the picture that her long toe still looks a bit curled.. didnt notice that before.. gonna have to work on that one a bit more :)

I did the best I could with just 2 hands.. having to hold her and work with tape, straighten them and tape again.. but it is all worth it! I hope this works and she can actually walk!

Oh and for those of you that may be following my updates on Lil Man.. I forgot to say that the 1 wing that was all gnarled up inside the egg and was not covering his face like they normally do... straightened out a few hours after he hatched and it is perfectly normal :)

in a "normal" hatch I candle as little as possible..
right before i first set the eggs into the incubator so i can check the condition of the egg and the shell
on day 7 OR day 10 depending on the type of eggs and color
as they enter lockdown

then i will candle an egg is if it's overdue

however there is a problem with an egg.. I will candle it as often as i need to to TRY to keep from having to punch a hole in it.. if I cant see what i need to know from candling then I will punch a hole into it so I can see exactly what is going on

for newbies and most people who don't hatch very often i recommend my normal way of candling (being as little as possible) since so many things can happen from handling the eggs too often
I think one of the reasons why so many hatches fail is because people mess with them too much.. they HAVE to candle and pick up the eggs every darn day that they end up dropping some.. or introducing nasty bacteria, stressing the embryo from too hot of a light during candling.. and if they have small children the kids seem to think if mommy or daddy can mess with the eggs then they can too. so they play with them or play with the incubator settings.. there's just so many things that CAN go wrong when you mess with eggs on a daily basis... especially the ones which have been in an incubator (which is not a natural environment anyway) from the very beginning

but in the end people do have the right to do what they want with their eggs.. after all it IS their eggs and their chicks.. and I have to respect that even if I disagree with how they do things
