Should I take my sick baby to the doctor?

Maybe you could ask the ped for an OTC recommendation? Is there an OTC mucinex?

If you treat a cold it will go away in 7 days. Treat it and it will last for a week.

My kids had progressive doctors who would never prescribe cold remedies, they recommended all the thing you all said, keep them comfortable, lots of fluids, steamy baths, let them cough & sneeze it out, watch for fever & green boogers which might indicate infection, blah blah.

The worst thing is the kids wear you down taking care of them and then when you catch it you're in bed for weeks!

Bottom line, you know your child, and you know what kind of doctor you have. Some are more willing to dispense advice over the phone, others are too concerned about reprisals and will insist you bring your child in to be seen if you call with questions.

My hubby just went to the doc for the same symptoms..he was pretty sick (nasty cough)..but all the doc said was to take mucinex and fluids ..no milk products..(because of mucus) and thats all.
there is nothing they can do for viral..
follow your mothers instinct

..if he seems like he need to go, then i would not hesitate to bring him in..

keep a hat on him to keep his ears warm and the heat from escaping ... that in turn keeps his extremities warm.. Eucalyptis and vaseline for a rub... or in a warm bath and no dairy ..... just clear liquids for him... I don't think I would run him out the door to the doctor but do what you instinctively need to do.. watch for a fever for sure and if you do have to take him out... Warm the car... cover his face and make sure he stays bundled... Keep us posted
