Ugh! My one week old MFC's stomped my day old Serama chick!!!

There was tons of room in the brooder, I stagger in my chicks all of the time and this has never happened before.

I have more hatching today so I am madly scrounging up the parts needed for another makeshift brooder. ugh!

I hope you get it all together for you next babies.

yes, those MPC's need to go in solitary.... in the box!

I put up a piece of cardboardto seperate them in my brooder when I hatched serama's. I only had one out, so I seperated them and just put one other chick in with the serama. The crew had been just running roughshod over the wee one. I'm sorry that happened. Pics Pics Pics of he serama bb's

Can you partition off part of your brooder with wire so they can see and hear each other? That way. when you are able to integrate them, they are already acquainted. That's my plan at the moment for my Christmas/New Years staggered hatch.

So sorry that happened though.

Mary

Definitely try them as adults. Send em to chickie jail and throw away the key.

Even DH was distraught over the flattened little body so he has rigged up a screen in the brooder to give the newbies more time to be up and on their feet before the MFC's get them.

Poor little Serama baby....

Maybe put a shoebox in the brooder? A brooder within a brooder? I separated my remaining Serama chick from the Cochins after I had to cull the other Serama. She had purple swollen legs and feet; I suspect but cannot prove that the Cochins were responsible. I think in the future I will use hardware cloth to separate the brooder into quarters.
