In my case the only thing I have used against mites when the chicken had them was Gordons Peremethrin 10 I got from TSC for $20 bucks and for my flock size it was a lifetime supply. I read and reread the instructions. It was a one and done thing in my case. These were the little red crawley thing mites other infestations chicken can get may require differing actions like smothering the mites under Vaseline ect. Ensuring they have good dust bathing facilities can get you pretty far too so I have a couple of sand filled tires on the property. So it is not effective at all? Is it effective against getting rid of parasites like fleas mites and ticks at least? I heard how good DE is from the YouTube channel Becky's Homestead.
To me sanitizing the coop is all I ever do and that just involves putting on a mask and giving it a good mucking out. Cleaning out the poop under the roosts whenever it starts accumulating. I use no other products than a shovel, broom and sweat for that and replacing the straw I use to catch it all for composting later.Ok thanks. What is the difference exactly between sanitizing the coop and sterilizing it?
No it's not really good for anything. I have no clue who Becky is but if she claims DE is good then I wouldn't trust anything else she has to say...she probably has no clue what she's repeating. So it is not effective at all? Looks like you have enough room to work on integration now. Beware that rats, mice and snakes can go right through chicken wire. I would cover the ventilation area with 1/2 inch hardware cloth if I were you.Ok thanks, I will try to integrate them while they are young. And I've attached some photos of my coop as well. Check out my YouTube channel to see how my chickens are doing too if you have the time. It is called Wild Primal. Here is a link to one of my videos:
To better assess your coop ventilation I really need to see what it looks like all closed up. I can see the door hinges but not the door itself. My doors are 100% vented using Hardware Cloth(HC). You might be ok if you have the same system. It is hot as heck where I live and I have to go big on venting. My chicken will not be seeing anything under 80-83F until October. On the flip side I never have to worry about winter and condensation issues.Ok thanks, I will try to integrate them while they are young. And I've attached some photos of my coop as well. @WildPrimal I would suggest you start a new thread here with pics of coop and run, inside and out, for coop advice.Since you are in MI @aart would be a voice I would trust on coop predator proofing and assessment.
