Show me your poop boards!

I believe @aart mixes sand and PDZ on her poop board? Not the floor of the coop, but on the boards.

I used to...can't find that good sand anymore so use just about 1/8" of straight PDZ.

I think you are saying leave plenty of room between the poop board and the roost. How much room? I was thinking 6 inches. Would you leave more?

Leave just enough to clean under them.
The higher they are, the more likely you'll have 'overshoots'.

15" seems like quite a bit, but I guess it makes sense. I have about 4ft of space to play with. I want to be able to stack 2 totes of feed under there possibly. I'm going to see how tall two totes is and then set the poop board height based on that. It should give me 12-15" at least, maybe more. Thanks for the tip!


My roost boards do not come out, but I'll just scrub them from time to time and let everything land on the poop board. I'll make sure to make the poop board removable then. Good tip!

12" could also work. Sometimes my birds walk along the poop tray to find their "spot" on the roost. They need enough space to walk under the roost.

All of my roosts just rest on a fitted support, so I can just lift them up & out. (In the pic: I cut up a banister for my orig coop roosts, but when I got into my giant orpingtons, I switched to 2x4s.) I also put up bathroom wallboard so I can easily wipe down walls. I make an apple cider vinegar cleaning solution. (Just put some orange peels & cinnamon in the ACV for 1-3 months, run it through a coffee filter before putting it into a spray bottle.) It's tough on the uck, non toxic, can disinfect, bugs dislike the orange / cinnamon, safe for the chickens, and once the initial vinegar smell goes away (which doesn't take long), everything smells very pleasant.

I made my nest boxes flip down and added an extra board to keep bedding in place.

The wood is notched to fit & one eye hook keeps it in place. When it's time for cleaning, I just sweep everything out into a bin below & carry it to the composter.

I then use diluted bleach water in a spray bottle and wipe them off. I have 19 hens and it works very well for me and them! No odor in the coop. I also use pine shavings on the floor and scoop up any poop that has dropped

Looks like a clear vinyl floor runner.

Mine is lined with the same heavy duty foam backed vinyl sheet flooring that's on my coop floor. I don't wash it with liquid tho.

This thread has some great ideas and beautiful coops AND best of all, very active! The pictures of new coops is not fair, ours is not nearly as pretty as our girls don't do housekeeping!! Keep up the good work.

Still in the building process, but here are my three poop boards with lift off roosts. They are 24” deep and I plan on using about ⅛” - ¼” of PDZ on them. I still need to add the front lip, caulk, and paint the bare wood.
