The only way to really kill the salveinia is either with salt or freeze it.
don't know if u know where chalmette is but there's bayou bienvenue. There's shrimp boats at a Mariana there that look like they are sitting on the ground. That crap has the whole bayou green like your lawn. I think there stuck seems like it anyway

This is one of our area lakes, all of this green should be water.

Wow, that looks like heavy vegetation. I can't see the pick well enough, but it kind of looks like a plant I have seen sold for rain barrels and such. They say it won't take the freezing, so not much worry up here about being invasive.
 
SDM I think your talking about the water hyasinth, it grows 12 to 18" tall and has a root system about 2' long. The giant salvinia is a little clover looking plant that reproduces at an incredible rate. The picture I posted is the giant salvinia, you can throw it out on the bank for 2 weeks and put back in the water and the next day it will be green.
