This is what will be going on around my place soon. Cock and both hens are all part of line-breeding efforts where they are being bred back to. Video was made almost four years ago. Each bird is being bred this year to grand (hens) or great-grand (cock) offspring.

do you use the names you gave the hens/cocks or some kind number to identify them?

Cock line is RED Generation __ Subline BLUE or GREEN

Hen1 (Sallie) line is BLUE Generation __ Subline RED or YELLOW (cock from Line D otherwise kept only for color)

Hen2 (Spec) line is GREEN Generation __ Subline RED (YELLOW was eliminated after 2 generations owing to consistent low hatch and chicks that did not impress me with their vitality)

This all started from only four birds.

Wing bands used to mark chicks prior to weaning and leg bands applied by the time birds penned. If band lost before penning the bird may as well have been eaten by a fox. Positive ID required.
