With a little practice you can tame even free-range birds although process will be slower. Work on getting them to come in for food, then get them to eat from hand, then work on getting them to allow you to touch them. From there you work on getting them to perch on you. I have a couple stags never penned that will try to crowd me from the feed mixing bowl. They are pushing five months could have been doing it younger if worked.


You can take a really wild cock and tame him down in a couple weeks following a more regimented procedure. That what we used to with stags harvested from walks.

You can also botch things up with penned birds. There is technique to process. Can be good, bad and in between.

I just need to spend more time with them... I am quick to feed them and get on with doing the rest of my chores.

I really only have one pair that is completely tame and docile around me and everyone else. These have been my kid's favorite birds since they were chicks and have had constant interaction with humans. So I know that time and care will tame.

That stag is a typical mutt found on my yard.. His black genes came from warhorse and white Spanish game mixed with Hatch. Special blend.
