It is going to be hot again today. The heat is accompanied by a strong wind that sucks the water bowls dry. Birds in heavy molt liking it as easy to stay warm. Even now temperature in the 70's. I have yet half dozen stags to pen up and hoping I can get a cool evening for that yet this week.

I will be dubbing all the stags from my B-line so a couple can be picked upon to show the the Missouri Gamefowl Breeders Meeting. Those guys will not disqualify me for having lemon-hackled birds. I do not have a single game that meets qualifications for any color. The dubbing will really reduce frost bite headaches too.

With the gamefowl shows I thought it was just red, grey and other. What's wrong with lemon hackles and why yours won't qualify?

Explainations I heard where my birds were closest to red but the lemon hackle did not make cut. The reds the judges deemed OK where to my eyes simply wheaton or dark brown over a wheaton base. The ideal had hackles of much more uniform color than my lemon hackle birds had. My dirty Hatch looking birds have too much brown in the breast to be reds. The other class I can fill is with my brown-breasted brown reds. Judge I spent greatest time with was best described as uptight and very defensive making detailed explanation difficult.

What SOP are they judged by? I assume you guys are talking about the American Game Fowl Standards. Also, what part of MO. is the show?

General shows have been in Sedalia, MO. I was told to look at Old English Game Bantams to see the ideal for each color variant. I assume the SOP for Old English Game Bantams was being followed. Based on what I have been told, challenging a judge is not something to do.

The gamefowl show moves about but still within an hour of the capitol in central MO.

I would love to make that Missouri show. You are right about not arguing with the judge, but there is the American Game Fowl Standard. It's my opinion that as game fowl breeders/exhibitors, we should politely ask judges to take a look at the Game Fowl Standard. A problem that we (those showing American Game Fowl Bantams) is that judges want to compare them with Old English Game Bantams. The two breeds are very different. The best American Game Fowl that I know of have no Old English Bantam in them. We are trying to make them a smaller version of what you full size Game Fowl breeders are producing. Good luck with your showing. I appreciate you showing GAME FOWL!
