I have about 10 that hatched from incubator... about 6 didn't make it. I have another half dozen under a brood hen, she has a few more days. How many hatched v/s shipped of the eggs I sent shubin?
any particular reason why you didn't help the one with the beak sticking out? I know some people want them to hatch on their own but I figure an incubator isn't exactly natural. I've helped plenty and most have been just fine. Just a little tweezer pulling wrapped in a warm/wet paper towel works most of the time. I just hatched 14/18 shipped eggs but had to help 4.I have about 10 that hatched from incubator... about 6 didn't make it. I have another half dozen under a brood hen, she has a few more days.
of the 10, I got only 2 miners. A 3rd miner peeped through but then died (solidified hard) with beak sticking out. 2 miners never started. Most of the rubles hatched, and some of the other crosses you sent. There was one giant egg from Kelso/Hatch cross that I was hoping would hatch but it never did. Under light it looked like it developed almost to the end.
Wasn't the greatest hatch, but I have promise for the ones under the brood hen. I am happy with what I got. Thanks again. I will keep posting pictures of them.
ha I was starting to think you missed that commentFirst time I have seen this type of cooperation (passive respect) between family of gamehens in a coop. The hen on the left had a small clutch of chicks. Her sister and mama (on right) are super respectful towards the new mama and her chicks. The new mama is not aggressive towards them either. The chicks even follow the sister around and eat from same pile of scratch. Its like a big happy family. And they all hug bunnys... @roosterhavoc![]()
I would have helped, but I was at work (or sleeping, it may have been at night I cant remember now). It didn't make it far, just the initial break through, it hadn't started working in a circle yet. I found it hardened.any particular reason why you didn't help the one with the beak sticking out? I know some people want them to hatch on their own but I figure an incubator isn't exactly natural. yeah sometimes when that happens they get shrink wrapped a little and can't unzip the shell. I always try my best to keep track of when they break through so they don't go dying on me.I would have helped, but I was at work (or sleeping, it may have been at night I cant remember now). I actually have it in the incubator still.. should remove it today.
