Those flies are tied on a size 1 Gamakatsu hook which is pretty big. The thread I use for these is really strong too. It's the little flies that can get difficult. Mainly because the materials and thread are so tiny and weak.

Tried putting that pure hulsey hen with my little butcher/McLean crosses and well that little pullet didn't back down one little bit so that didn't work she went back with her chicks gonna need to get on some pens soon. But at least my pullets show promise.

Gotta be careful sometimes pairing them up especially with young stags. They might be fine one day and the next the pullet is dead. I try to plan it out and pair up birds at night. I am or my wife always out there with them before sunrise with coffee in hand to make sure everything is ok. Had one where I put a stag in with two pullets. They were fine for probably 10-12 hours and just before dark. Them pullets started going after that stag. Well he wasn't having none of it. He was all over them in a hurry. Had another hen I tried to put in with a stag. Put her on the far end of the roost and she scooted over to him and tried to beat the hell out of him. She's a keeper hen so I pulled her before she got a taste of her own medicine. I've only lost one pullet though. Totally fine for one whole day. Came home from work and she was a goner. I almost pulled his head off right there. He was young though and it was my fault.
So be cautious when pairing them up. Sometimes it goes smooth other times not so much. It's kinda irritating cause it seems like the ones I want to breed don't get along and the ones I don't wanna breed are perfect together.
