I’m glad I wrapped the pens. Supposed to get a storm on Thursday and the get real damn cold with wind gusts to 50 mph on fri -sat. Below zero both days.

thats for sure. He only eats frozen foods, no joke intended :)

I dont understand how anything survives in such extreme cold. It may be because I am hairless animal.

youre insane
Lol the way I look at it is I put them in those pens. It’s not hard to keep em alive but it’s a ton of work to keep em comfortable. I can’t just sit in the warm house knowing I could have done more for them.
That’s kinda why I get pissed when other guys act like it’s no big deal to lose 30 birds in one night. Everyone knows what the weather is like where they live it’s your responsibility to keep them thriving. Most people I run across are flat out lazy and just make excuses.

Ever notice how a little songbird survives extreme cold? Put that same bird in a pen with the wind on em and see how long it lasts. Then guys say only the strong survive. That’s bullsh*t. Put your *ss in that pen and see how long you make it. Or guys say they can eat snow. Another round of bullsh*t. Get your lazy *ss out there and give em water. Birds that are well hydrated can stay warmer. That pretty much works for everything living. I run 9 gallons of water out of the house in winter. 24 hrs in a day. Takes about and hour to feed and water. Not really a big deal.

My birds get less protection than yours for sure. I also feel for them and check them multiple times a night when conditions are tough. Last night less than legal on to describe as walking all the pens. It helps develop an appreciation for wind direction and how even a modest wind break makes a huge difference.

The shrink wrap I have never gone to yet. Dubbing has been the only effective method for controlling frost bite, short of applying heat or allowing cocks to roost on dogs in dog house which has been done more than once.
