When it comes to raising animals local ordinances and annoying people are at fault along with everyone living on top of each other. It’s a recipe for disaster.
I don’t know why but it does seem to me that laziness really is big part of it too.

Some people need to try something new every now and then. Whether it’s raising animals or getting outdoors. So many people are stuck in their ways of work, home, tv, sleep, repeat. It’s a vicious cycle. I shun most modern technology for as long as I can but even I am sitting here typing away on my iPhone like everyone else.
I think a balance is needed.

thats true about parents lessons.. Usually you follow in your parents footsteps to some degree... I can see how I am a product of what my dad taught me..

With that said... I need to go fishing... I learned as a kid and have been ocean and surf fishing dozens of times (never fished in a river or lake though)... I've had a tackle box for as long as I can remember. but I have never fished on my own without my dad.

ya cities suck period... suburbia is better but its setup to promote generations of laziness... Rural is perfect balance of natural and civilized... the sweet spot of human evolution.

Honestly most of what I do I learned on my own the hard way. When I started fly fishing a long time ago I bought a real cheap kit. I drove 4 hrs to a trout stream. Once there I realized I had no idea what I was doing. Bunch of guys around so I stayed further away from them. I noticed this one older guy (about 70) came over to me and showed me what I was doing wrong. Caught a little sunfish in that stream on the first day. That was it but once again I was hooked. Just like the guy that sold me the knife ( when he shouldn’t have lol) this guy took the time to teach me instead of fishing himself. Turned out he drove over 6 hrs to get there yet still helped me. That’s what it takes. Pretty sure the other guys were just annoyed at me waving the rod around like an idiot.

Got a good amount of wet packed snow today since I've been home I've checked on the birds 4times since 3pm. Bought em some 5way scratch and it must be laced with crack.

As far as the topic I've fished since 3 I use to love it but passed few years I've hardly wet a line I have 8 tackle boxes full of this and that. But one thing I agree on is getting kids out learning responsibility even when they may thank it's fun or even when they don't it's better than the alternative.

Everyone should volunteer their time to teach kids something in the outdoors if you can. Teaching kids over the summer fly tying was pretty cool. Most were just going through the motions but this one little boy who was with his mom (no dad around from what I could tell) was really interested. The group I was with gave him a brand new rod and reel. To see that kid light up made it all worth while.

Seems like parents nowadays don’t know enough themselves to teach their kids. I see it all the time. Years ago I had a guy at a local lake come up to me and ask for help. He had his son with him fishing but he clearly didn’t know what he was doing. Sons reel was a tangled mess and the guy didn’t have a knife or know how to fix it.
That's where you're wrong Havoc, "parentS". In this day and age, single mother households are the norm compared to the traditional mom and dad.

Yeah but just like that little boy tying flies. His mom brought him. She didn’t have a clue about any of it. Supposedly she brought him the year before and since then he was stealing all kinds of feathers from his sisters art project so he could have materials for fly tying. His mom went above and beyond to make sure he got there again.
