Centra I've seen the majority of your pens don't have frames or roofs/tarps what do you do about high winds/rain/sleet/snow?
Just curious really.

Six, not shown have shade cloth. Others have either a loosely fitted rug or piece of plywood. When high winds hit tops blow off leaving pen in place. The latter are moved to south (left) into shaded area as sun become more intense. The shade cloth pens do not do well in high winds. I move pens frequently once growing season underway.

The first generation of pens upon moving here had frames, still have 24 with them. Switching back to making pens from heavier duty wire.

Sleet / Snow / Rain like right now they get direct exposure to. Protection from even cold winter wind minimal. Protection from sunlight more of a concern.

Buddy I tell you what the Radios I'm pushing out this year will be my best yet. I'll set apart 2 pullets for you if your still interested. To breed next year of course.

Not overboard. You have a different set of conditions to be sure, and different goals. I have the land to move pens around, a lot. My setup is not perfect either. We have lived here only 10 years in what is a prairie setting which is very different from forested area in southern Indiana where everything was under trees and precipitation is more reliable. Still learning. Had a hen come off nest only 2 days into incubation. Pissed.
