Is the time stamp correct on your post? If so, why are they so active at night? It is about 6-6:30 before I hear the first crows this time of year.

Time stamp correct. The crow a lot almost every night. Exception is when weather very cold or heavy night time predator pressure. Latter difficult to realize here with dogs.

Maybe I don't have enough to notice it much, but mine are pretty quite unless something disturbs them.

I think it’s as simple as a hen shifting. The rooster flaps his wings to steady himself on the roost and a few birds let out a crow.
