He flew off while I went to get my scissors. Lol

Lol That's awesome to see something like that, I woke up this morning to find that I had kicked the cord out of the ups for my incubator, so it's been off for about 15 hrs. The last hatch for the year probably be lucky if one or two hatches.

That sucks. Maybe you'll still get a few.

Do those ups things work well when the power goes out? How long will they keep the incubator going while the power is out? Ive wondered howmwell they work. Ok so Im thinking about building an incubator. I recently found an incubator setup without the styrofoam incubator housing so im thinking about building a homemade incubator. i have two auto egg turners. I really like how the older cabinet style incubators look. I really dont need one. I allready have two that work just fine and after i hatch the first set i plan on letting the hens hatch all the rest except maybe sometimes when things may not be happening the way i would like them to. I found on craigslist three kelso hens for sale for 40 each or all three for 60. Im thinking i may try to get at least one of these hens. Its a cheap automated incubator. So now hopefully i can come accross a rooster that i can breed to the hens i am going to try to get next weekend. Ive seen a few roosters on craigslit but im hesitant to buy something from someone that isnt raising the whole family of fowl so i know their lineage and purity. I think im better off with a hen or three and a rooster. That way i can hatch all the eggs i ever wanted. Also where im at in cali there are few gamefowl breeders that offer chicks. I know a lot of people ive asked would like to get some gamefowl so if i got a few hens and a rooster i would be setting myself up to be able to make some money nexxt spring by selling hatching eggs and chicks. If i was to do this how much would be a decent price to ask for the chcks? What are everyones thoughts on this? If i get these hens and a rooster i still plan on getting these eggs from this guy ive allready pre ordered from and keeping that line to myself for me and my brother and my son whenhe gets old enoug to formshowing purposes. So the line of fowl im getting which the hatch part of them is very rare and almost noone has them so i think its always best to keep something aside as your ace in your back pocket. so with that being said what are your guyses opinions?

Im just thinking on the side of making money. ive had the hardest time ever finding local gamefowl. After i talk tomore people and ask more questions. It seems the gamefowl that are around arent available for sale. There are a lot of gamefowl around here but no one wants to sell their line of fowl. So i was thinking with everyone ive talked to also saying they would like to get a few but they are hard to find and expensive for even mixed dung hill birds and its not feesable for e eryone to drive two hours one way to get some gamefowl so i beleive if i bought a few hens and a rooster i can take advantage of the want in the market. I will only do ths if i feel its going to be do able in a respectfull way. I dont plan on ripping anyone off. Just selling baby gamefowl chicks at a decent price. Non of the gamefowl i sell would be from the eggs im going to get. Im thinking i want to keep that cross to myself as long isnthe cross is a good one which i probably wont know for sure for at least a year after he is born.

Don't put the cart before the horse. Raising any number of chickens correctly regardless of whether or not they are gamefowl you would have to sell a ridiculous amount of birds to make money starting out.
Buying and reselling relatively soon after you got them is a sure way to find yourself in a heap of trouble. You won't know enough about the birds imo in that short of time to do anything other then give them away or sell them for a few bucks while being completely honest about where u got em and what u know about em. Then again I'm kind of a negative person. Lol

I dont think making money on gamefowl is good idea for a first year owner/breeder. Like Roosterhavoc said, it would take hundreds of chicks ot be profitable. For the sake of "trying" and experimenting, aquiring hens and rooster is good idea.. It will allow you to test your setup and you can learn from the mistakes you make.

I would concentrate on getting a good line of gamefowl going before you ever "go into business". Im no expert but I would assume there is a small percentage of people who actually profit from breeding gamefowl.

Also in my opinion, knowing the history and purity of the gamefowl doesnt neccessarily equal quality gamefowl. There are probably a lot of pure breeds that are depressed because of improper breeding and culling practices. Some people keep pure breeds only for the sake of having "pure breed" regardless if they are quality or not. I'd rather have a vigorus cross than an average pure breed. thats just my opinion.

I have a hovabator (the styrofoam one iwth 42 egg turner).. It works good, but I had to add a digital thermometer to read temp and humidity. Humidity is a big part of it.. especially in a super dry area like where I live...

Right now if the power goes out I'll be fine (not just because I have solar lol), but because its 100 degrees outside already.

probably find a used one on craigslist pretty cheap.

1rosecomb stag, 1 pyle cross stag&spiller and 1 frost grey pullet. hennie stag, he has been a problem since hatch. Could not be kept with his clutch or older chicks.
That Frost Grey was hard to catch... Its going to be a while before she calms down. Never been touched by human hands until you picked her up from under your foot. lol

400

2 month old hatch X Grey cross pullet I rele like her colors
