He's American crow.. I have seen a few ravens by me and they are much larger, have really big/strong beaks and make different sounds. No fish crows by me that I know of.

He may appear larger because he is a well fed male. I know he's a male because he tries to mate with my hand on occasion.

Wondering why you don't use the woods(shade) for your birds ?
The sides of my yard are east and west. The best areas is already taken and the section behind the existing pens in pic is lower lying and floods. Hotter in summer but they will be much warmer than the rest in winter.
400
the trees in the back provide zero shade and to the left of the pens in the original pic is east meaning they would have full sun the majority of the day. The way I have it set up now they are all in shade for the hottest part of the day. The pens in the middle of the yard get about 1.5 hours more sun than the rest.

That's a crow. Ravens have feathers extending down the beak further and their beaks are more hooked.
I never heard of a fish crow before today. Just looked it up. Can't say I've ever seen one.

More than one species of Raven in North America but hard to discern by looks alone. I would be very surprised if some populations of what we call American Crow are not represented by cryptic species. Your crow looks different that ours.

Geographically that makes sense. Crows dont seem to migrate long distances (not in Southern California)... mating is probably confined to a 5-10 miles radius. Considering the thousands of miles between us I could imagine the most recent common relative being 500 years ago or longer. Or like you said, crytpic and have very distant common ancestor, hundreds of thousands of years ago.
Also consider the environmental adaptations (climate differences alone could cause morphological changes relatively quick).
