wow that little one is working hard to catch those bugs... so much that it loses balance and drops wing to catch itself. Good workout with a protein treat. The advantages of free range!

I wish I had that many bugs around. I dont have grass so I dont get many flying/jumping bugs like that. I have plenty of burrowing insects, which is nice for the mama hens who scratch around in damp soil and under rocks/plants. But we must have some kind of flying insect because the bats go crazy right before dark.

June bugs only have a short season in my area, which seems like it lasts only a couple days in June. And they seem like they are dying by the time I see them on the patio; super slow and unresponsive and only I only see them at night.

I know you guys will flip out on this one... I moved one of cocks out of the big avairy (all his hens were tending chicks) and turned the avairy into a Stag pen... SDM stags and an older hatch mix (my breed).

just temporary till I finish my 3 stall coop this weekend.

I lost all my meal worms... I left my meal worm containers open to vent heat.. Well the chicks in the shed figured out there were tasty treats inside.

Did a good job cleaning up though, now I have two 18 gallon totes with nothing but worm castings and some left over bran.
