Many people just keep a feeder full in the pens with the birds. What's the difference in feeding heavy or keeping food in with em at all times. I use cups to prevent waste from getting wet with sideways rain, plus for some reason I hate filling big feeders and waterers. I like the cups even though it's prolly more work in the long run.

I think this is common sense, if you want to keep your birds with good or heavey weight or any animals matter of fact you have to keep them on a steady diet of the right food depending what they are and you need to worm them regularly,
Dusting or spraying for lice is a good idea too.
Like I said depending on what they are oriental, american, old English, Spanish whatever.
I've brought many roosters back from sickness of many kinds and its not just medication its providing them with fresh food and water.

The only large feeders I use is with my young fowl, all my fowl have waterers large enough to carry them for a few days and they're kept very clean year around. I don't think there is any questions about how well you feed, you all have posted pictures of all your fowl to prove that you keep them healthy and beautiful. Everyone has their own way that they've learned from a mentor or on their own, it doesn't really matter as long as we take care of them the best of our ability. Pride is the driver that keeps us raising gamefowl.

Flight / fighting trim. Fat bassturds do not live as long for a variety of reasons.

Targeted weight based in part on feel. Breast and leg / thigh regions need to be robust yet abdomen needs to feel tight. This achieved using a restricted ration. The ration varies with season / temperature.

Birds over fed like humans in that candle burns too hot thus burning out quicker. Restricted ration prevents health problems not unlike those associated with human obesity. Down side the approach is birds need to be handled now and again to now where they are at on the weight curve.

I have been refurbishing my avairy with wire because the shade cloth (with wind relif holes) wasnt cutting it. A few hens were able to get in and out as they pleased... I also just recently added a partition for growing grass... I have sprinklers in there now and just planted barley seed day before yesterday.

Are you guys saying I shouldn't be feeding my birds candy bars, cheesesteaks and biscuits and gravy? They sure do love it all.

One of my friends/aquaintances has a food recycling company that takes all the expired candybars, energy bars and cereals and grinds them into sweet pig/cattle feed.

For a while I had nearly unlimited supply of candy (just slightly expired, but still good). I wouldnt feed it to my chickens tho... probably used a weight gainer.
