When it comes to coloration, it is not an issue unless you are doing some crossing of different strains and trying to breed back to one of the strain looks so you can say it is that strain. Many birds out there having a look typical of a given strain are in fact a product of outbreeding which is often needed to prevent inbreeding depression. The selection for color is a method for "hiding" the outbreeding when potential market is overly concerned about purity.

Makes sense...  There just seems to be so much genetic diversity in gamefowl as a whole.

Games represent the bulk of the genetic diversity in chickens. Other breeds are largely the result of inbreeding and selection on a given strain / breed of game with liberal amounts of crossing between other game derived breeds. Selective pressures operating on games work against the inbreeding that is employed on non-game breeds.

That shall be kept in mind when you are out peddling Hatch birds. By then you will have selected back to proper color or had time to get your dye bag out. lol

Rooster would not know difference so he will not be kept in the loop.

Ha you can't even keep chicks alive long enough to peddle. Raising 3 chickens a year for the past 30 years doesn't make anyone an expert. Keep going though because I find your advice both amusing and entertaining.

Overly complicating and over thinking things is a sure sign somebody needs another hobby. Might I recommend fly tying, after all it still involves chickens to hold your interest in genetics which you seem so fascinated with. You might have better luck with this since you don't seem to be doing so well with games. I can send you some brood fowl tying birds to get you started if you wish.

When it comes having difficulties and discussing them freely, that should suggest to you confidence and possibly even experience. All I see from you suggest very much the opposite.

Amazing the diversity in some lines... When you say Givens Spangled Hatch, I have a completely different bird in my head, but looks like a nice bird none the less!
