Gotcha. I think I read somewhere that medicated feed right away could kill a chick of it was weak. Can't remember where I saw it though. I've lost a few chicks over the years but usually there was some other issue like being abnormally large, too small or just failure to thrive type deals.

I use this when first hatched... mix it with water. I try not to feed too much, because it will leave a mushy mess in the straw. After a month they go outside (usually on their own accord, jump out from box/brooder) and get phase 2 mash.. 18% protein I think. And whatever bugs/grass they find.

He looks cool. I don't think I can recall seeing a full black hennie. I have seen black ones with orange-ish hackles...

I like the green iridescent in his black feathers... you have any better pics of him?
