Had a barbecue today. Overheard a comment from my cousins veterinarian wife about " yeah right a friendly rooster" until he went over and picked him up. Had a ruble stag on a tie cord. Know it all book smart folks don't know jack sh*t! Lol

Centra. How do you stake the pens? Most of my domes don't have doors on them. I want to stake them all especially the new set up I have in the middle of my yard. I take the birds out of their pens pretty often though and without doors it seems like a huge pain. I guess if I'm gonna stake em down I may have to put doors on em. I don't see any other way to do it.

I only have doors on a few and they are kept open all the time for broody hens / pullets to come and goes as they please this time of year. Openings are not well positioned for me to reach through.

Balance require that I tip pens up for birds to come out or to be pitched in. Most of my birds are trained well enough that I can get them to go from one pen to another with a little feed or sex as bait. Some bullstags and even a few hens very reliably try to scrap with other birds in pens when released making capture that way feasible. Some birds will fly into hands when called but that requires more training time than I have to address all.

I will provide picture later showing design. I had one of myself and daughter a while back but cannot find.

Yeah I remember the pic. I'll have to see I do the same with tipping them up to get birds out. I can see me putting doors on them and still tipping them up to get em out.

My grandfather had a yard manager that tamed each and every stag and cock to the point they would allow themselves to be picked up. The leggrabbers were reserved for pulling birds not yet tamed. Birds not tamed easily went to dumplings pretty quick. Too many flighty birds makes keeping any number of birds very difficult.

A quality feed once in a while drone comb with brood from a honey bee hive. I put about 2 pounds of the stuff out and the birds are going going to town on it. It took them about 5 minutes to figure out how to un-cap the cells and extract the pupae. Chicks ate so much they just want to sleep.

7 out of 7 hatched from the rescued eggs, the other 18 hatched on the 18th. I had to move them in this smaller container so that I could clean my extra large one

all but one are fine to get out of the pens. Most I can just scoop right up. There's a few that'll dance around a bit but not too bad. Just a tad annoying.
