It's that little fin on top of the fish near the tail. It's usually clipped or non existent on stocked trout. It's right in line with my index finger.
gotcha we don't have fresh water trout like that although we call bass green trout. Just spotted sea trout aka speckled trout

i prefer trout. Don't laugh. This is a good size fish for the small stream it came out of. Notice the adipose fin. She's a wild fish.
Should have used that for bait to catch the grandpa trout
 
I just gill and gut, then stuff with something green and spicey, then wrap in aluminum foil with some butter and place whole thing in hot coals. I avoid filleting except with the largest fish and with those fillets are chunked.
 
exactly. 13 mile hike just to get to that stream. I like solitude. Lawn chairs, radios and coolers of beer ain't my thing. Lol



I usually go to the Rockies for Cutthroat in cow pastures where streams are not even three feet wide. Up there you can also slay Brookies in culverts going under roads. When I fish with nephews we like to also stand on yellow jackets nest so they can serve as a signal to move on.
