9 new babies such a good fourth of july im so excited. Can anyone tell me the yellowish white ones why they came out lighter? Is females darker?

Pic of both parents and both grey shouldnt all offspring be grey?



Male looks golden rather silver. Latter only is homozygous for grey. Grey locus is on Z-chromosome. Female has only one Z-chromosome while male has two. Female shown obviously has a Z-chromosome with grey coding locus. All her sons will be grey by male shown; half as golden and half as silver. Pullets by male shown will inherit only one Z-chromosome and it will come from that male. Half will get grey gene and half will not. Those without will not be grey. You should see 1 in 4 chicks or 1 of 2 pullets come out other than grey.

Does cock have wheaten kin? Hen not wheaten - grey that can not be source for lighter down coloration. Wheaten makes for the lighter chicks but not sex related.
