Yep, just started saving some eggs.  My wife thinks I am addicted.

only a few chicks are for me. Blacks, leiper x penny, and a few mug crosses. The rest ain't staying no way no how. Yeah they will be in the shed this year. No more basement and no more shavings. Lol

So I have been trying a crazy idea... I like to have the hens set on the eggs, but it has been too cold to leave the eggs in the nests, so I swap them out with plastic eggs as they lay. My thinking is they will lay a clutch and start to set then I can put their eggs back and not have to worry about them freezing. Too crazy, should I just fire up the incubator? There is just something about watch the hens with their chicks.

Sometimes it will work sometimes playing with the nest and they'll quit.
