Hard to tell but the current is swift the water is rollimg at the edge of the road. That's only a few inches deep once it gets a foot or so that's a lot of power then 2 or 3' well...

Flypen, I don't know how easy its gonna be for the folk u know to recoup from the loss of birds. Don't know if they can get their blood back hopefully they have some spread out but if not they welcome to whatever I got in the spring. Eggs, chicks whatever.

Thanks, sdm I'm sure that there will be a few not able to regain their bloodlines they had. I know a couple of them were able to pack up the majority of their broodfowl to take to higher ground. Sad very sad. I hate to see the years of work and dedication lost over night like that.

These days a lot of people treat them like irises. They are for looks and bragging rights as to how well you have bred and cared for them. You have certainly seen fancy yards with well organized plantings / landscaping. The roosters are much the same. I use them for experiments and educational tools where multiples are used for replication and more than one is needed for trips as trips like I take them on are stressful or involve getting fed to much.

Space, think 10 to 20 foot radius per rooster. I like to rest ground so multiply that by about 4.

Thanks. We wound up with a bunch of orphaned game fowl that had to be rehomed because they were wild chickens, and without their mamma they were too hard for 1st time keepers. They hatched the day we brought our flock home. We took in the one that hatched late and was rejected immediately, and I love her. Ducky brings a streamlined mix into our flock of austrolorps, RIR, white leg horn

Heat index of 104 today. Finally had to put shorts on. You'd never know I had so many loose birds. All in the woods in the shade. Had a few turkeys come in the yard today and chased off a few young rubles.

saw that heatwave on the news. When does it usually start cooling off there

Starts cooling off at night around mid sept. It's usually cooler all around in mid October. Sometimes even get some snow. Who knows. I'm hoping for a cold winter, I barely used any wood last year.

U guys remember that curly toed pullet I showed u awhile back. Was gonna cull her. Anyway I bred her to a ruble cock. Only hatched one egg out of 3 I think it was. Either way here is the pullet.

she is real calm but she is too big for my preference. Not fat, just a big bird.

She looks nice. Would she be considered really low station or just really hot?
What a difference a day makes. Been raining since last night and is actually pleasant to go outside for a change. Birds sure are enjoying the change.

We had the Ohio River that would jump out and grab things as well. Currents were a major issue until the Army Corp got involved. What used to be our problems are no problems for people down stream.

Main house in Grandview, IN. River on south side of town. Eat ate two of my great great uncles as kids in one day. Flood refuge on bluff north center of image.

At time we had games in town we had about 5 acres behind house. Hen / garden shed was setup so water could 6' deep yet upper level would be dry. Same for house. This made so after loss of uncles.

Bluff location with cockhouse and where cock pens spread out over at least 3 acres above flood plain.

Number of cocks needed to be moved likely less than fifty. Broody hens were the part where moving did go so easy. Distance between locations less than a mile.
