I just threw 4 pure miner eggs. She went Broody about a week ago. No more hatching for me till the spring.
Yeah I wasn't planning on it. I'll be d*mned if she didn't disappear with those chicks. Still don't know where she's going. Might be under the shed. I'll have to check again tonight with a headlamp.

or it could be several stags that mated her, you might have some tough stags from that
Oh well. Wasn't looking for anymore young ones. I'll tell ya though I'm real close to turning all my hens loose to finish molting. Might be a helluva job getting them all back though. Lol

yes sir, I have a couple that got wise to being free now they don't want to be caught. Lol
I worry about them come winter and 3 ft of snow if I left em loose. I can manage the losses due to varmints pretty well. Not too mention the war that would take place when I actually let them out.

I'm not going to leave them out, even if they're smart enough to stay alive. 3' of snow would be rough

I could and we used to let a lot of brood hens loose on walks year round. Looses to hens fighting occurred but were relatively light. I would not try such if some birds penned as dynamic changes where what might be just a serious scrap can result in serious wounding even when scrap of short duration. It is another example of container effect.

The hens I let out with chicks early on are still out with the exception of a ruble hen. She can't be out. Maybe a case by case basis. Problem is I know that's not gonna leave me with many running loose cause most will pen fight. I need to move pens again so if I do it maybe I'll try all the changes at once.
