I would rather lose a bird or two than have tin foil, CDs, and fishing line all over the place to hopefully deter a hawk.
Kinda like an owl decoy for pigeons. They don't work for long.
A big shotgun blast full of #4s with a modified choke should do the trick. (Just kidding)

The problem in we have outdoor pet chickens that my 4 y/o daughter is very attached to. I'm hoping once the boys get bigger and get their spurs in they'll scare the hawk off.
