Care must be taken with making all the crosses. What are known as battle crosses are / were not random crosses. In most instances they were crosses between two true breeding lines that were previously compared to other crosses and pure stock in the pit. Most crosses are not crosses likely to be intentionally created by skilled breeders because they have not been vetted. The random crossing for looks is a faster way to devalue a group of games.

With no actual "performance review" or record, these birds are merely ornamental pieces. Couldn't agree more.

can you explain how a breeder breeds true? Mind y'all I'm only doing this as a hobby, I will never be a "great" or an actual breeder.....unless they bring back the pits....which won't ever happen.

thanks for the insight. So far all my Radio all look the same, except for the radio x GL sweater. Either way like centra said, we might be breeding the game right out of these guys

all this talk about breeding true and crosses has gotten old hasn't it? Breed whatever the h*ll u want for whatever reason. If they're good keep em, if not discard them.
Plenty of pure lines out there that breed true: meaning they come white legged, yellow legged,'pea comb, straight comb, lemon hackled or dark. whatever.

Finally got a call back. Green Legged Sweater from Alabama, through and through, never crossed, only bred to sell. So I have some 1/2 Radios and 1/2 sweaters in the flock....and apparently I'm a cheating poker player when I'm drunk....coooooool
