Gamefowl do ok in the 4x4s in the winter in the Midwest?

Use mostly 5 x 4 pens but have about a dozen 4 x 4 pens. Birds do fine. Blizzard conditions during winter result in me placing wind breaks on them but otherwise not protection from moon and stars until early April. Then I place partial covers on pens so birds can move with shadow on ground during mid day and go up on roost under cover when sun low in the sky.


I have had free-range roost 40 feet up in trees totally lacking leaves throughout the coldest winters. Combs get frostbite. If birds have choice, then they will move to a cedar tree, into a barn or even into doghouse with dog when it gets really cold.

1 1/2" screws box 1 lb.
X8.....- right side locks for doors
X2....2x4x8 cut in half longwise for roosts
8' of 1/2"X1" wire
Roosts are put 7.5" high and off set about an inch

And most important thing is to have fun and learn more about ur birds

Add to cut holes out of wire use a grinder and get it smooth so it won't cut bird

Centra you're not really gonna build like that huh? Overheat and no ventilation is just asking for sick birds you know this. At least put some venting along the top and bottom. Maybe totally removable tops with hardware cloth like cock boxes
