To reduce motivation for cannibalism, simply up protein a little. If memory serves the flock in question is getting diet that is very low in protein.

Its not always protein. Although it may be the case here like you said. Sometimes they just do it. Boredom, penned without enough room whatever. I see that response so many times. Especially about birds that eat feathers.

x2 those pin feathers are full of blood and once they get a taste for it, they keep coming back, unfortunately.  Once she is feathered out you may be able to put her back.  You may try trimming the beaks of the culprits when you do.  A pair of side cutters and a torch to heat them will do a nice job of trimming beaks.  You want to blunt them so they cannot grab and pull.  Just watch their tongues! 

imo it would be easier to just put peepers on the other birds. The orange plastic ones just snap right on. I had a whitehackle hen pecking feathers. It works like a charm. I took them off after the molt and they were fine til molt again. I finally just culled her. Nothing to do with protein levels as mentioned previously

Best I can describe it is green legs that looks like they stepped in yellow paint and shook some off.

I have not seen cannibalism in free-range birds with access to ample quality forage. In my setting it is easy to realize in pens and with birds that can not find good eats.

In my experience with feather picking I believe my issue was too many in too small an area. I also believe in that setting people mistake a low protein level for overcrowding and boredom. Not saying it can't be from protein deficiencies but not solely for that reason also. The freerange have the ability to get away and to keep themselves busy
As Far as lauravansmurfs situation I believe they got a taste for blood

I use peepers for my pheasants and they work great only problem is the do change how the upper part of the beak is. Also if u use the clip on ones they won't break if bird gets tangl d on wire . Would recommend the ones that go all the way thru the nasil cavity. Even those change the beak.

As for the legs I agree it does look like the paint thing. So weird. Phone won't let me post pics. Will when I can. Merry Christmas everyone.
