Centra, that setup does look nice. I thought many times about using bamboo, but I don't have any personal experience with it. You mentioned cuttings, will it grow from cuttings as easily as willow? Also, do you have any recommendations for a native variety for the north?
 
Anybody know what or why this happens? Not mine but I did have a black a couple yrs ago with this, got culled

You can Google "split wing". It is considered a genetic defect in show birds and generally the axial feather is missing between the primary and secondary flight feathers. It can be passed on to offspring and some strains have a higher prevalence than others.

It is not as pretty as diagram indicates.


Bamboo slow to take but dense bamboo stands (canebrakes) when established can be excellent locations for broody hens.

The start easily but are slow to take off.

There's a few people around here with bamboo that's visible from the road. Not sure if they are any of the 3 native species but they are constantly cutting that stuff back. Looks like too much work to maintain for the benefits. Looks way out of place too
