Your McLean is 9months old and he got out and a 1 year old welsummer rooster took him to school? Am I reading that right?

Yes and not the point at all, I do think he got stuck in the wire and was done for before he got out. Idk really nor care we was gone to the store and came back to it.

The point is there is no way in h*ll a 1 year old welsummer should be able to keep up with a 9month old stag. I would cull him. I suppose if you think he got caught in the fence it's a different story. I've found one caught in the fence too so I know it can happen.

You may have problems with that welsummer if he can get to the pens where you have stags/cocks penned.

You said you found him in the yard though. The one I found was still caught in the fence and my guess is he was trying to get away, culled.

Well it's the only thing that makes sense to be that bad theirs blood all over the summers legs and he weighs a good bit more than the stag which I was told was around 8-9months. Cause through the fence even though the mcleans beak is cut he gets the best of the others.

I can't rightly know I wasn't there so I'm not going to cull him. He was in the yard right beside his pen.

I don't know what you mean about through the fence he gets the best of the others. That doesn't make sense. If he messed himself up from inside his pen and his head is that bad his feet will be too. What's his feet look like?

My wel is the free range the others are in breeding pens and they fight through the pens and the McLean puts him in his place that way.

It is what it is his legs are tore up a bit but not like his face and neck. Theirs not hardly a place on the wel other than scabs from fence arguments other than blood all over his legs.

Why do you let them fight through the pens?? They will wreck themselves eventually. I'm not trying to tell u what to do. They are yours but unless his feet are destroyed I would cull him. I would say whatever you paid for him was too much. 9 months is not that young.

Thanks for the advice fella.
You can take it or leave it I don't give a sh*t. I've made all the mistakes your making and thought I was good. I have had guys on here help me with pens and setting up electric fences and I ask for other advice from time to time. You won't find many people that purposely let roosters go at it through the wire ever. It's a nightmare.
Free ranging rooster and penned roosters is a recipe for disaster. You can be in denial all you want but a 9 month old stag should not be in that bad of shape from a welsummer unless he's sick or something.
