Sorry to hear about your hens Centra.

Agree with all advise given. Penicillin and Vetericyn are good course to take.

To help keep flies away - don't need them added to the mix - you can apply some Swat Fly Repellent Ointment around the wounds to help keep them off. I believe TSC carries it.
Just a thought.

Neighbors in part. One of mine may have participated. Attacks appear stimulated by change of setup. I brought some birds up by house which had not been done for a couple of years. One of my dogs clearly has a concept of where the birds are supposed to be. He is has matured into a very good dog that is smart as can be but had a back slide. He and I will have to upgrade out communications. The neighbor's dog takes carcasses home and eats them.

This event light loss but came when no plans to breed. Plans must now change. Losses all to one line here products of four generations of line breeding diminished. Three remaining pullets will have to be put in with their great-great-great-grandpappy to give me another couple dozen pullets to choose from. This bunch more fun than I like because they are prone to show game as chicks more often than not.

My wife and kids helped me clean up mess and do changes to fencing. That was first time we all got to do something like that together. Eldest kid still only 5. Good feeling.

I did a head count of pullets that were deemed select last fall from that lineage. Count is four not counting two hens (by technicality of calendar) that will not likely come into lay for another 45 days assuming they pull through. They are pulling and very much anticipating sun coming out which just started seconds ago. Today and tomorrow will be the key days. I do not think either will be able to fly again. Will have to be retired to broody pens.
