Shubin you’ve had a tough go of it. I get it but you can’t blame the dog. Shelters are full of dogs because people either lack the understanding or the patience. (Need to make time) if you can’t find the time to train them properly then you don’t need a dog. What would you do with the dog if you didn’t have your parents to dump it off on??
I know of a few people that have taken a dog back to a shelter. These people are flat out useless. Too goddamn lazy to pay attention or train the damn dog. It’s not hard. Buy a book. Watch a video, anything. Ideally you need to establish your in charge from when they are a pup.

It’s more of a prey drive type deal. Some dogs probably can’t be cured of it. Simple fix. Don’t let the damn dog around the chickens. I do it every single day. My dogs are trained but I still don’t let them around the birds without me being there. I won’t rely on a dog to protect them either. I do it with fencing, electric fencing and guns, traps then a knife.

Your smarter than the dog. If it’s your ex’s dog and she let it happen. Burn her clothes. Won’t change anything but it might make you feel better. Lol

I cant control a dog while I am gone... and I shouldnt have to... I train them while I am home....

The only thing I can do is lock them up while im gone.

but my ex isnt trained and she forgets or doesn't care to lock them up.

A locked up dog can’t kill chickens.

ya I think it is a prey instinct... And need to keep them away from the chickens...

Like I said my Male is perfect and understands my intent.. He protects yard and chickens.

they all know I am master and follow my every command flawlessly. I can run them through an obstacle course and walk them without leash in neighborhood
