My observations tend to be more 1+1=2... Big fowl tend to produce larger offspring, and if I were to add smaller fowl, the offspring tend to average out and/or get smaller...

If I bred my Spanish to any of my large BBR hens, most would be about middle road between them. with one or two being small or large like one of their parents.

Lol, I don't think I have anything suffering shubin

I didnt mean it like that. I just meant they could be "subject to" inbreeding depression (maybe). There is a tendency to get smaller with inbreeding.

Im sure they are great broodfowl. And more importantly it sounds like you know what you got, and how to get what you want with them.

If I kept at it for a while in this direction of selecting large fowl I would end up with large Oriental style fowl..

Gamer (RIP), one of my most Oriental looking without having any oriental bloodlines. And no Spanish genes reducing his size.

We use to breed our broodfowl a certain time of the year so that all the 2yr old crosses (battlefowl) would weigh between 4.4 - 5.6, preferably mid to high 4s because most of the big money cocker's (people that would spend $20k for a pair or trio) fowl would range in the low to high 5s. Back then you didn't want to meet one of them, by staying under them weights we were able to win more derbies. JShubin if you really honestly wanted a perfect pure trio of Grey fowl, I know where you can get them for $600 plus shipping. One time only!

I show old photos and Ya a lot of mine have died. I like to put RIP in their honor.

I take pride in my gamefowl and remember/recognize them all like my own family.
