We shall see I think I will, I may have a leather Sheath round here that may fit it if I don't like the plastic. Should be here soon the seller is just down the mountain bout 30mins in wilkesboro.
I posted a pic of that exact knife a few pages back.

@flypen that kind of damage does sound more like a coon especially actively trying to get to a bird inside a pen. I have a possum living under my shed. 5 ft away from roosted birds in the trees. He don’t even bother them. I kill em if I have a gun handy lol
I’ve only had one possum attack a chicken and she was sleeping on the ground inside the wood line. Everything else has been a fox, raccoon or hawk. I don’t know about owls. No proof from them.
I have trapped so many raccoons the past few years it’s crazy. Haven’t set a trap yet this season and no issues so far. Hawks are starting to come through though.
Yes sir, you could be right. What ever did it has to be able to rip her throat out while hanging on the side of a pen, only 2 animals I know that are able to do the job.

I imagine it was a possum and yes he called a couple hours ago and offered me 2 hens, I told him just one for now. I still have to get rid of a pest. I'm going down to his place Saturday to help get a show ready to be put up.
keep a lookout for some blues

Definitely possible I had possoms pull legs off quail through the bottom of above ground pens
What size wire? I would think anything a possum or a coon could reach through the birds legs would fall through the openings.

Nah hardware cloth. I guess 1/2". They'd do it at night when they were bunched up. I don't remember if I had roosts it was a long time ago. I surely remember going back there to Jap quail rolling around.

I ended up waiting at night and observed a possom walk across the top of my pheasant pens down and under the quail pen then I shot him with a 20ga if I shot others I don't remember
